Adoption Terms & Agreement

Breeder and Purchaser Agree to the Following

Guarantee of Pedigree

  • The breeder guarantees that the cat being sold is a Pedigree Maine Coon, registered with The International Cat Association (TICA) and the Cat Fanciers’ Federation (CFF).

Pet-Only Agreement

  • This kitten is purchased for pet purposes only (NO BREEDING RIGHTS).
  • The buyer agrees to spay or neuter the kitten before the age of 6 months.
  • Veterinary proof of spay/neuter must be provided to the breeder, at which point registration papers for the kitten will be delivered.

Failure to Spay/Neuter

  • Failure to spay or neuter the kitten by 6 months will result in the buyer forfeiting the right to register the kitten.
  • Unauthorized breeding will incur a $3,000 fee, regardless of litter production.
  • The cat is not to be bred at any time.

Deposit Terms

  • The deposit is a payment to reserve the kitten for the buyer and ensures no other party may claim the kitten.
  • The deposit is non-refundable unless the breeder is unable to deliver the kitten due to unforeseen circumstances, at the breeder’s sole discretion.
  • If the breeder cannot provide the kitten, the buyer will be notified within 14 days, and the deposit will be refunded in full within 30 days.
  • The deposit is non-transferable to other kittens or purchases unless explicitly agreed upon in writing by the breeder.
  • If the buyer decides not to proceed, the deposit is forfeited as it compensates the breeder for reservation and administrative efforts.
  • If the breeder terminates the contract due to the buyer’s non-compliance, the deposit may be fully or partially forfeited, depending on the circumstances.
  • The deposit will be applied toward the kitten’s purchase price.

Final Payment & Returns

  • The remaining balance is due at pick-up.
  • Once full payment is received and the kitten leaves the cattery, the sale is final.
  • Payments are non-refundable, except if a veterinarian diagnoses a health issue within 48 hours of pick-up.
  • If a veterinarian confirms a health issue, the buyer may:
    • Return the kitten for a full refund (excluding veterinary costs), or
    • Exchange the kitten for one of equivalent value from an upcoming litter.
  • Delivery fees are not included in the purchase price.

Health Guarantee at Pickup

  • The kitten must be examined by a licensed veterinarian within 48 business hours (excluding weekends and holidays) of pickup.
  • The Breeder will provide the buyer with a current vaccination record at the time of sale.
  • The breeder guarantees that the kitten is healthy to the best of their knowledge. “Healthy” refers to the kitten’s clinical condition at the time of transfer and does not constitute a guarantee that the kitten has never been exposed to common feline pathogens, as outlined in the Health & Biosecurity Disclosure Addendum.
  • At the time of transfer the breeder guarantees the kitten is free of internal (round/hook/tapeworm), external parasites (fleas) and fungi (ringworm) at time of sale.
  • If a certified veterinarian diagnoses any of the conditions mentioned or finds other health concerns within the first 48 hrs, the breeder will cover the treatment expenses until the condition is resolved.
  • The breeder is not responsible for vet exam costs or diagnostic testing at any point.
  • The cost of treatments to be covered by the breeder is not to exceed the total cost of the purchase price of the kitten. In the case of expected treatment costs exceeding the purchase price of the kitten by a veterinarian within 48 hrs of bringing the kitten home, then the kitten would therefore be deemed unfit for sale, and promptly returned to the breeders, unless otherwise agreed upon by the breeder and the buyer.
  • If the cost of treatments covered by the breeder (due to a condition found within the first 48 hrs) persisted over time and eventually exceeded the total purchase price of the kitten, then the kitten would be considered refunded in full at the time the covered treatment costs equaled the total purchase price. The buyers would then be responsible for all future treatment costs from that point on.
  • If the kitten is deemed unfit for sale by a licensed veterinarian within 48 hours, the Buyer may:
    • Return the kitten for a refund of the purchase price (excluding veterinary costs), or
    • Exchange the kitten for one of equivalent value or receive a credit of equivalent value towards another kitten within the next three litters.
  • The Buyer must notify the Breeder within 2 business days of the veterinary determination and provide a written certification of unfitness from the licensed veterinarian within 3 business days of receiving it.

Exclusions After 48 Hours

  • After 48 hours, the breeder is not responsible for illnesses such as:
    • FeLV, FIV, bacterial/viral infections, parasites, or fungi contracted or diagnosed after leaving the cattery.
  • All future veterinary costs are the buyer’s responsibility.

Health & Genetic Warranty

  • The kitten has a one-year warranty (from the date of birth) against any fatalities or diagnoses that drastically reduces the lifespan or quality of life of the kitten due to congenital or genetic defects, including:
    • HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy)
    • SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy)
    • PKdef (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency)
    • PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease)
  • If any genetic defect or congenital diagnosis that drastically reduces the lifespan or quality of life of the kitten is confirmed via a necropsy report or diagnosis from a licensed veterinarian, the breeder will either replace the kitten with one of equivalent value or a credit of equivocal value will be given on a future kitten within the next three litters.
  • Examples of what would drastically reduce the quality of life of a cat/kitten would include such diagnoses that would disable them from properly eating, drinking, having general mobility, or reasonable cognitive ability expected for the kitten's normal age progression.
  • No cash refunds will be provided unless at the breeder’s discretion.
  • Euthanasia due to a genetic defect must be agreed upon in writing by both buyer and breeder.

Buyer’s Obligations
The buyer agrees to:

  • Have the kitten checked by a vet within 48 hours of pickup.
  • Spay or neuter the kitten by 6 months of age.
  • Keep vaccinations and health checks up to date.
  • Provide a clean, cruelty-free environment.
  • Keep the kitten indoors only (outdoor roaming is a contract violation).
  • Never declaw the cat.
  • Provide proper medical care as needed.
  • Offer daily love and attention.

Prohibited Actions

  • The cat may not be placed in:
    • Laboratories
    • Shelters
    • Pet shops
    • Cages (unless medically necessary)
  • Violating these terms allows the breeder to reclaim the cat without refund.

Pickup, Transfer & Boarding Fees

  • Kittens leave between 12-16 weeks old (minimum age: 12 weeks).
  • The kitten must be picked up by 16 weeks.
  • The buyer is responsible for all transfer or delivery costs.
  • After 16 weeks, a $10 daily boarding fee applies.
  • Boarding cannot exceed 30 days—after which, the buyer forfeits payments, and the kitten is re-listed

Breeder’s Right to Cancel

  • The breeder may cancel the sale before transfer if deemed in the kitten’s best interest.
  • If canceled, the buyer will receive a full refund of their deposit.

Transfer of Ownership

  • The buyer must notify the breeder before re-homing the cat.
  • The cat must live in the buyer’s home—it cannot be purchased on behalf of a third party.

Lifetime Support & Rehoming Policy

  • The breeder offers lifetime support for the kitten.
  • If the buyer cannot keep the cat, they must notify the breeder first.
  • The breeder has the first right to take back the kitten and assist in rehoming.
  • Returns are handled at the breeder’s discretion, and no refund is guaranteed.
